Also, the proposed Park51 is really quite a ways from Ground Zero, like two blocks away in one direction, and then down a cross street about another block, away…So just “what” is considered to be Ground Zero? The actual area of the fallen buildings plus what additional distance…huh?

We need crusaders like Newt to do the work of Christ and remind everyone that we are a nation of Christians. I think history repeats and from Spanish Inquisition to Richard the lion heart we had great Christian crusades. Newt Gingrich and Rev. Franklin Graham are America’s modern day Crusaders.

I hope that Newt Gingrich will be our new President in 2012.

And as Jonas notes, it’s not like the strip club (NYC Dolls) is so respectful of the dead. It’s prime Manhattan real estate, and if someone wants to buy an empty building & build a community center along the lines of the 92nd St. Y *that has the support of the community* I don’t see why anyone else should interfere.

And I’m sure the offices and retail establishments actually at Ground Zero truly show how we honor those who died on that awful day.

Given the tenor of what passes for political discussion these days, I’m increasingly ashamed of being an American, since obviously, the only acceptable American is white and Christian.

If these “opponents” had a sincere interest in seeing this elsewhere, they would have started by asking them not to build at this location. They didn’t.

Instead they went directly to attack mode and created this latest WMD (Weapon of Mass Distraction). More evidence that in this country we no longer convince people to change, we simply coerce them.

This is a battle to preserve freedom and liberty, as was the attack on the World Trade Center. If you can’t see that, you’re as dangerous as the so called “terrorists” you fear so much.

This is an assault on the basic rights and freedoms guaranteed to everyone.

An assault on this group is an assault on us all.

Clearly the preservation and protection of the basic Rights, Freedoms and Liberties guaranteed to all, is no longer a top priority for those on the “right”.

Are you nuts? Why is it only the general populace needs to be sensitive to this and overly PC? What is wrong with asking the “Park51 group” to be sensitive as well? There is no dispute that this group has a “right” to build a community center and place of worship wherever they want, but, at the same time, having the right doesn’t always mean being in the right. If the group and its imam espouse the mantra of creating better understanding and healing relations between Americans and the Muslim world, would not actions speak far louder than words if the imam were to come forward and say, ‘we understand the reason that there is opposition to our constructing in this particular location and, in response to that, we are willing to consider other options as a demonstration of the purity of our intent’?. Just asking.
