A pair of Suffolk County police officers saved a Medford woman’s life earlier today by performing the Heimlich maneuver.
Officers Roger Kieber and David Kolesar, both from the Fifth Precinct, had responded to a call at Medford Hamlet Assisted Living, located at 1529 North Ocean Ave., at 1:25 p.m. While already on the premises, a staff aide told them a woman was choking in the bathroom.
Upon entering the bathroom, they found 75-year-old Elizabeth Detelj, a resident of the Assisted Living home, lying unconscious with her skin turned blue.
After administering the Heimlich maneuver to Detelj, they were able to restore her breathing. She was then taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center.
