yanualia sellers,
I agree with you that n****r does not only refer to black people though this is the race most associated with the phrase. I firmly believe that ignorant people and a**holes come in all colors.
However, I also believe that the point you tried to make was lost in your atrocious tangle of incorrect grammar and punctuation. Perhaps next time you attempt to emphasize that the word n****r refers to people who are "uneducated and dumb" (which are essentially the same adjective, that's a describing word by the way) maybe you'll hit the spell check button. Your comment only served to make you appear uneducated, but maybe you're just lazy. I know that capitalizing "I" when you're speaking about yourself is REALLY difficult.
" i don’t ever let nobody put me down." Are you familiar with the phrase double negative? If not, look it up. I think you could benefit from adding this one to your vocabulary. Which, let's face it could use some work.
"if you don’t like the word then work in favor of a law that prevents anyone from using the word anywere including tv were we hear the word the most or music. thetn you won’t have to cry about it."
This string of sentences is a cry for help. A cry that says please send me back to an English class because even though I'm an adult, I cannot write a properly structure paragraph. The spelling is "anywhere" not anywere, that's not a word. If you have such strong opinions about this, or anything else for that matter, writing and speaking in a proper fashion will make people more likely to listen to what you are saying and it will certainly make you seem like a less ignorant person.
How about instead of advocating a law criminalizing a word because it offends, we educate our children and apparently some of our adults about the history (the WHOLE history) behind this word. Perhaps we empathize with those who are offended and attempt to understand why that is. I don't think it's a ludicrous expectation or request that people make an active effort to refrain from the use of derogatory or hateful words and phrases in a negative context, which I understand is not how it was framed on this radio program. I used to have to listen to Dr. Laura in the car with my mother when I was young - a captive audience. I certainly wouldn't willingly expose my child to any sort of program where words with such long and tumultuous histories and subjects with such importance are being thrown around so flippantly.

I was born in 1970, so I missed out on the civil rights movement in this country, but I do know something about the history of it, and I do live each day in its aftermath. Racism will never be completely done away with, until all races become as one, with no minorities. We humans, as a species, simply do not possess the collective intelligence to know better than to degrade eachother over matters of racial inequality. Our species' gene pool just isn't strong enough in that department, and probably never will be. As far as what Dr Laura said, I don't know if I should defend her actions, or dismiss her as a blatant publicity-seeker. I understand that we ALL have freedom of speech in this country. I also understand the context in which Dr Laura spoke on her program. If it bothered people, that's understandable. If it amused people, that's understandable too. If it made people think, it's a victory for everyone. As a species, we ought to think more often.

It turns political and a little hostile when Jade suggests that white people are afraid of “a black man taking over the nation.”

Erm...Didn't things turn "political and a little hostile" before then, when Laura said "n****r n****r n****r, and dragged the president into her rant (as though blacks would have voted for McCain if not for Obama's skin tone)

Alright my qualification is that I am a 35 year old American of African decent. There HAVE been more claims of racism since Obama took office, but the clear case of reverse racism was by passed when a so -called new black panther started threatening whites and mix couple blacks at the voting both. If we don't like other people saying ni**er, then we have to stop putting it in music, stop greeting each other with it. It doesn't matter if it ends with 'ger' or 'gga'. WE have made it mean different things, but get mad at non blacks or non minorities when they use it. We call white people cra**ers, but don't understand that the cracker was the man with the whip in the slave days. So, are we hypersensitive? Yes...when it suits us. If you are under 35 you probably don't know anybody that was a slave or missed it by 10 years. I do! My mother fought for education, she went to school with Angela Davis. I sat and talked with Yolanda, Martin III, Dexter, and Bernice when I was not yet 10 years old several times. You do not make a word internationally popular that was once notorious, and then restrict people from using it. When you use a term that is disrespectful to the people of Jewish decent, they will come out in force to stop you. They don’t make rap albums calling each other k***es. I find it an insult that she came back and apologized. There were many black people that voted for Obama because he is black, but if every black person voted alone, he would have never been voted in office. 12% of the population can not overwhelm 88%. Whites did elect him. As for the callers husband, he is the punk. He should have corrected his family, but he did not. Yes, mixed marriages are still going to find those opposing them – so deal with it or, stay with your race. I am lucky I have a Filipino wife. Born and raised in New Jersey so stop it. My kids know all about my culture & her culture. They speak English, Tagalog, Swahili and Spanish. She has family members that look down on her for being with a “black” guy, but she checked them from jump, and we have not had any problems from them. I have even watched their kids for them. Not everything is racist, and many of you are being fooled by these modern day activist. Read the Willie Lynch letter and realize that blacks hold blacks down more than any white person is even trying to do. They may have started the trend in slave days, but we keep it going in the Obama days. It only takes one person to make a stereotype true. Yes there is modern day racism from some white people, but I have found that most of it is due to our current actions in our culture where we put our queens downs, fight education and depend on the government to do for us. My elders marched and fought to get our own. This generation throws what we have earned away and then begs for help!
