The Meadowbrook Polo Club, the oldest club of its kind in the U.S., recently held their Ladies Polo Tournament at the polo fields in Bethpage State Park.
The women who play come from all over. Polo is not like any other competitive sport to these women, says a member of the club.
“I can lose and not be upset that I’ve lost…as long as my horses played well,” said Cindy Buchanan, a Ladies Meadowbrook Polo Challenge player.
Polo ponies are different from other horses. They like to play and they get competitive among themselves, players say.
The team is growing and welcomes new players. It is open to the members of the public who would like to watch a game.
