One minute and fifty-two seconds.
That’s how long it took Jon Jones to defeat Vladimir Matyushenko via TKO Sunday night in their bout for the UFC light heavyweight championship.
On paper the fight seemed to be skewed in Jones’ favor—he is known as a flashy, speedy fighter, while Matyushenko is more of a grinder who wins by decision. Unfortunately for Maty, the fight never left the first round.
Jones took Matyushenko down at the :58 second mark, and after less than a minute later, had him pinned down while he pummeled him with elbows.
It was all over from there.
Jones is 23 years old, stands at 6-feet-4-inches and weighs 206 lbs. Matyushenko has similar height and weight—6-feet tall and 206 lbs.—but being 15 years Jones’ senior and having a a 10-inch less reach definitely played a role in his loss.
