A single-car crash Thursday morning on the Meadowbrook State Parkway killed three young people and left two others seriously injured.
The victims were counselors at Camp Anchor, a camp for the disabled in Lido Beach. Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray said that the five were on their way to work at the camp.
The identities of the deceased are unknown pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the vehicle was not killed in the crash. The injured parties were cut out of the car and taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. State police say all five were in their early 20s.
The crash happened at around 8:45 a.m. in Roosevelt, just south of the Southern State Parkway. The car left the roadway and struck a tree, ejecting at least one person. The road was closed from exits M6-M7 for investigation, but has since reopened.
