A 58-year-old Rockville Centre man was arrested for robbing a North Lynbrook bank after an off-duty police officer spotted him acting suspiciously on Monday, Nassau County police said.
Frank Brugge was charged with robbery and will be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
Robbery Squad detectives said Brugge handed a demand note to the teller at the Capital One Bank on Franklin Avenue at 3:20 p.m.
He then fled on foot with the cash on Hendrickson Avenue where he was observed by an off-duty Lynbrook police officer who followed the suspect and saw him remove a wig and discard it, police said.
The officer followed Brugge until the officer could verify there had been a bank robbery. Brugge was stopped by a Malverne police officer and placed under arrest without incident.
