A lawmaker representing New York has proposed legislation to rename the Lynbrook Post Office after a Navy Corpsman who lost his life in the line of duty.
Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) introduced the legislation renaming the post office on Broadway in honor of Jeffrey L. Wiener, a Lynbrook resident who was killed in Iraq in 2005.
Wiener had served his community as a volunteer firefighter and later as an AMT before he enlisted.
While serving in Al-Anbar Province, he was killed along in an ambush and bombing in Haditha on May 7, 2005.
Schumer said this legislation is “A tribute to a brave American who gave his life for his country.”
“Navy Corpsman Jeffrey L. Wiener is the epitome of a true American hero,” he added.
In 2006, the Lynbrook Fire Department dedicated a special plaque in his honor at Veterans Park in Lynbrook.
Weiner left behind a wife and two daughters.
