11-Year-Old Hit by Car in Critical Condition

An 11-year-old girl hit by a car in Bellport on Friday night is in critical condition, Suffolk County police said.

Khalima Jones was walking with several other people across Station Road when she was struck by a Chevrolet driven by 17-year-old Lauren Staut of Bellport at 11:40 p.m., police said.

Jones was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.

Staut was not injured. Her vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

Fifth Squad detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552. All calls will remain confidential.
