Village of Rockville Center officials are reconsidering a law they passed on June 8 that banned Rottweilers and pitbulls in the village after the move sparked a wave of criticism.
Village spokesman Jeff Kluewer said the there were no complaints from the public when the law was approved with a 4-1 vote.
But after receiving a slew of complaints from residents and animal rescue groups, the board will vote Tuesday evening to suspend the law. Critics say the village law violates New York State law.
“No dogs have been taken from their owners,” Kluewer said.
The village may vote to repeal the law at a later meeting after a public hearing.
