Fantasy Baseball: Hitters in the Year of the Pitcher

Aces abound, but bats are a buyers market in 2010

Edwin Jackson was the last starter to go no-no in the Year of the Pitcher

Since 2008, there have been eight no-hitters thrown in the big leagues. Half of those no-hit gems have come in a little less than half a season that will be forever known as the Year of the Pitcher.

Edwin Jackson joins Ubaldo Jimenez, Dallas Braden, Roy Halladay and Armando Galarraga (the imperfect game) as part of the quartet of pitchers to throw a no-hitter. While Braden and Halladay were perfect in their no-hit efforts, Jackson was everything but perfect.

Jackson needed 149 pitches, the most in nearly five years, and EIGHT walks to maneuver his way through this no hitter. While the Arizona righty may be remembered for one of the stranger entrances into the no-hit club, there have been more peculiar no-hitters thrown in recent memory.

A.J. Burnett slung 129 pitches after walking nine for his no-hit bid in 2001 as a member of the Florida Marlins. Hey Yankee fans, remember when Roy Oswalt, Peter Munro, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel and Billy Wagner of the Houston Astros combined for a no-hitter against the Yanks in the summer of 2003?

Baseball is a strange game. It’s hard to hit that round ball with those round bats.

While it may seem like everyone is getting no-hit these days (apologies to the Rays who have been perfected [Braden] and patiently no-hit by Edwin Jackson), there are a few guys that are anything but hitless.
