No, the red, white and blue all over Fifth Avenue in New York City is not to celebrate the U.S. World Cup tie yesterday against England. It’s to celebrate the heritage of Puerto Ricans in the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade.
Held the second Sunday of June each year, the yearly Parade has a habit of drawing massive crowds to the sidewalks of Fifth Avenue, complete with floats, marchers, and appearances from politicians and celebrities alike.
The parade’s king is none other than singer and actor Marc Anthony, who stepped in to fill the position after actor Osvaldo Rios dropped out amid a domestic violence conviction.
