A small undersea earthquake struck off Santa Monica, California early Monday morning.
The 3.6-magnitude earthquake was felt in the West Los Angeles area. The center of quake occurred about four miles west of Redondo Beach and was eight miles deep.
The U.S. Geological survey says the quake hit at 2:17 a.m. PDT. The USGS website recorded hits from people in oceanfront communities and some from Central Los Angeles who felt the earthquake.
A Santa Monica police spokesman said he felt a “very brief and mild jolt.”
Scientists say that earthquakes of this magnitude are usually not strong enough to cause injury or damage.
