A 72-year-old New Hyde Park man was accused of setting fire to his home following a family feud on Wednesday, Nassau County police said.
Joseph Sorrentino allegedly used matches to ignite a bed of his two-story Lawrence Street home after an argument with his stepson shortly after noon.
The Garden City Park Fire Department responded with 50 firefighters and extinguished the blaze in approximately 30 minutes, police said. No injuries were reported, although fire damage to the house was extensive.
Arson/Bomb Squad detectives charged Sorrentino with arson. Shortly after his arrest, he was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital in Lake Success with complaints of chest pain stemming from a prior heart condition.
He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead as soon as practicable.
