Gun Buy Back Program Comes to Long Beach

by Long Island Press on May 15, 2010

The Sixth Gun Buy Back Program will be hosted by By Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, Police Commissioner Lawrence W. Mulvey and Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Christian Light Missionary Baptist Church in Long Beach.

The Program offers $200 cash for each gun turned in and is completely anonymous. Guns not accepted include BB guns, licensed guns, long guns, air pistols and replica guns. Money for the Program comes from money recovered by the Nassau County Police Department and District Attorney’s office.

To participate in the Gun Buy Back Program, guns must be unloaded and put in a paper or plastic bag, kept in the trunk of a car and driven to the Church, located at 620 Rev. J.J. Evans Blvd. in Long Beach.

The last buy back, in January, brought 100 guns off the streets. Since its inception, the Program has brought in more than 1,400 guns since it began in December 2008.
