Times Square Evacuated: Police Investigate Suspicious Package

by Long Island Press on May 7, 2010

Reports are coming in that parts of New York’s Times Square have been closed to traffic as police investigate a suspicious package. The Associated Press is reporting that police say the package, described as a small, white “cooler,” is located at 46th and Broadway.

New York City, and Times Square in particular, have been on edge since the car bomb incident last weekend, when a Nissan Pathfinder filled with explosive material was left parked in Times Square. The car bomb failed to detonate and the alleged perpetrator, Faizal Shazad was arrested on board a plane, attempting to leave the country.

Cameras on Times Square are showing police lines blocking the area off from traffic and pedestrians. We will update as more becomes known.
