Cedar Creek is a toxic mess. I smell this plant everytime I enter Seaford. How can anyone live near the Sewage Treatment plate in Seaford I have 1 son and he holds his nose everytime we pass this dump.

Cedar Creek’s intercom phone system has been out of service for years. Many employees do not carry portable radios (there aren’t enough radios to go around) so they have no way of contacting anyone for help if they need it.
Mr. Mangano, if you want to earn any measure of credibility, you must investigate the incredible mismanagement at Cedar Creek.

Well what do you expect with the lack of funds and lack of maintenance at the plant. It seems that Terrance Hopper is actually the only one concerned about this issue, Richard Catugno on the other hand is leading the plant into a one way ticket to complete destruction. The legislators seem to be concerned not only for the plant but also for the citizens of Nassau County. Instead of hammering the maintenance supervisor for not being able to get the funds needed how about stop giving overtime to other departments of the plant that are unnecessary, shame on THOSE PEOPLE who are lining there pockets WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS.

I can’t clam today. Let’s not forget the animals that live in this environment of sludge. Plants and animal eat, sleep and breed in this sewage. People need to be accoutable and the time has come to upgrade this plant before a real accident happens. As a seafood eater I can pick and choose how much seafood I consume. The animals can’t.

The only person who should be held accountable for the lack of maintenance is the person who is IN CHARGE of maintenance: Terrence Hopper. He should be disciplined and removed from his job..
Despite his blustering on the video about the bar screens being out of service, why doesn’t he explain to the Press why he walked off the job and refused overtime to fix a screen? Why doesn’t he explain why mechanics from Bay Park were called in to do his job? Why doesn’t he explain why he followed the advise of DPW union president Bob Campo to leave the plant and “worry about the bar screen tomorrow.”
Ladies and gentlemen of Nassau, you are being fed a big bowl of sewage by this paper, Hopper, Campo, Price, and the legislators who are foolish enough to put stock in the nonsense.
Nassau’s Katrina, indeed. Don’t insult the fine residents of the state of Louisiana.

So Hopper, the HEAD OF MAINTENANCE, is complaining that the place is falling apart???? and we need our govt to have a hearing to figure out what is going on?? Yikes! I’m not sure who should be more embarassed, Hopper or the Legislators that are wasting time (and our tax dollars).

why is management still in place here, if this is true? if these are facts and known to so many municipal bodies (state, county legislature, county exec office) how does this continue?
who is nassau county’s “environmental” leader? waiting for an explosion?

I am an employee at the Cedar Creek facility. During the video, it is stated that we are not treating sewage and that raw sewage is leaving the plant. This is a complete fabrication. My evidence of this is simple. There is a state mandated test performed SIX times a day that measures the amount of solids leaving the facility. The results of this test is 0.0 without fail. That means only chlorinated effluent (resembles drinking water in its CLARITY) is leaving our facility. Yes, there are safety and maintenance issues that need to be addressed. But there are dedicated, concerned employees of this plant that do their best with what they have to ensure that we do not pollute. Under current conditions and the state of treatment equipmnet, we do a hell of a job keeping OUR waters clean. If this situation is going to be rectified appropriately, people need to get their facts straight.

As a retired county employee I would like to add a little bit to the story. Richard Cutugno, a Republican political hack, was put in charge of the Cedar Creek facility 15 years ago. Before he was placed in charge the plant was receiving awards for one of the best sewage treatment plants in New York State with the prior management which in turn was removed to make room for Cutugno. After 2 years of Mr. Cutugno’s management the Reublican administration was made aware of the situation by not only the county employees but by the Cedar Creek Overisight Committe who had grave concerns. All the above fell on deaf ears during the Gulotta administration and the county legislature, so I find it funny that Suozzie administration gets the sole blame for this. It is sad to say that the Suozzi administration and the county legislature was notified what was going on at Cedar Creek and it also fell on deaf ears. I would like to know as a taxpayer who this Republican political hack Richard Cutugno knows and why he is still allowed to run this multi-million dollar facility into the ground and to this day he still has his job?
Maybe it has something to do with him being a Hewlett Republican Committeman but I’m just a retired worker so what do I know.
