The “Not Afraid” lyrics are a typical barrage of strung-together-syllables from the Detroit wordsmith, and drops days after creating a buzz of anticipation in the hip hop world, leaking a vicious freestyle, “Despicable”, which finds Eminem rhyming over the instrumentals to recent smash hits “It’s Over” by Drake and “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” by Lloyd Banks and Juelz Santana.
Interestingly, in “Not Afraid”, Eminem describes his own previous album as “ehh”, and the song has the same rebellious tone as many of Eminem’s previous hits, including “The Way I Am” and the Oscar-winning “Lose Yourself” from the movie 8 Mile.
Later in the morning, Eminem called into Sirius channel Shade 45 (the satellite radio channel he produces) and spoke with radio host Angela Yee about the single, his upcoming full-length release, working with new producers and the Detroit Lions.
Recovery is scheduled for a June 22 release.
