UPDATE: NO. Just another Internet rumor. Brown’s reps confirm he is indeed alive. We will now return to our regular scheduled programming.
No, really, is Bobby Brown dead? We don’t know! Don’t assume we do just because we’re a news organization.

In all seriousness, the Internet is going nuts with rumors Bobby Brown has passed away. A chunk of the rumors seem to be stemming from Twitter, where users are reporting he succumbed to lung cancer at the age of 41 (his actual age, so there’s an iota of plausibility there). The speed at which these rumors are spreading is just more proof of how quickly the crowd mentality picks up steam when social networks are involved.
Besides an arrest warrant being issued in August of last year after failing to show up at a Mass. court, Mr. Brown has been largely absent of headlines. His last album, Forever, came out in 1997. His name didn’t even get any traffic when Lin Yu Chun’s cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.” Maybe this is the resurgence Bobb-o needs.
Of course, if he’s dead this is all moot. And if he is dead, let us be the first to say: Rest in peace.
