George, I'd love to hear your experience regarding immigration; however until then, generally speaking, most non-sociopaths tend to feel sadness for the death of a 14 year-old girl. Not to mention colloquialisms or slang such as "dult" and "LOL" do not exist in the English language, but being being an "educated American" I'm sure you knew that already. Anyway, I agree the quota system is the law; but it doesn't make it right. Also, I'm not sure if I agree with you (right to bare arms) when you say English is what makes us a people and what all Americans have in common. I would argue that ideas such as freedom, capitalism, and democracy are what bind us--and ideas are language-free.

Right or wrong, the quota system is the law.

If you feel the quota system is unjust, it is the duty of America CITIZENS to protest to the government and have the law adjusted or changed.

As to the mass immigration of Irish Catholics to America, due to the potato famine; the Irish Catholics were fleeing a genocide being perpetrated on them by the British and Irish protestants of that era. The suffering of that genocide lasted for many decades.

When the Irish Catholics came to America, they were treated as outcasts. they were forced to live on the fringes of American society and were for many generations forced to deal with discrimination far beyond that which is being perpetrated on the Hispanic population.

If a stranger came into your home, would you invite them to stay? Would you tell them to bring their relatives to live at your house? Would you give them your job? Would you? Didn't think so.

The stupidity of the American "War" on Drugs is astounding in that it contradicts most of Americas "goals".

The drug war has made drug sales very lucrative. Drug sales fund gangs, cartels, rebel armies and terrorists. Drugs sales promote murder, hatred, addiction, keep alive an underground economy and show every American citizen just how easy it is to ignore and skirt the law. Anti-drug enforcement has created a police state siege mentally which is increasingly being used to harass and intimidate legitimate American citizens.

Reform the drug laws and many of these problems will disappear.

Arizona has significant problems dealing with all the uninvited individuals in their state. They are right to bring this issue to the forefront. This issue and all those tied to it need to be fixed, NOW !

And for those who would like to cite history, all the other immigrant groups to America made the English language their own. The English language is what all Americans have in common. It is what makes us a "people".

The US quota system is to blame. They still favor Northern European over anyone else.
People ask why these people come here. Why can’t their countries prosper to provide for their people? Here are some reasons:
1 – Most Central American countries governments are corrupt, the money that they get from other nations (mainly US) go to better their lives or those of tourists.
2 - The biggest expense to their budgets is fighting a losing drug war which the US requires in order to maintain a “good” working relationship. In addition, because of this war violent as sky rocket in those countries.
Maybe if the people of these nations did not have to fight this war because of USA desire to have illegal drugs – maybe there will be less illegal aliens crossing the border.
3 – There are new businesses opening up in these countries, however, the “high” paying jobs are going to (guess who) US citizens or Europeans. High paying jobs are engineers, architects, managers, supervisors, etc. This is leaving college graduates in those nations with jobs that don’t pay the bills.
Just a small history lesson to ponder – when the Irish were dying because of the potato blithe, they bordered boats to the “New World”. Many landed in New York, Boston, Baltimore, etc. and were counted. However, many landed and were not counted. When other such as the Italians, Slavs, Greeks, and other Mediterranean enter this nation they were labeled as criminals and sub-human. (Many acts and immigration laws were passed against them).
We need to learn from history and not repeat it – we in a humanity approach to immigration. I would like to thanks those true Christians who are not allowing the current cruel laws to deter their holy duties.

The word "illegal" is absent here. Facts are important and words are important. Is it that hard for Mexicans to earn the $2000.00 dollars to come here legally? Perhaps the U.S. should look into employing Mexican labor in Mexico at a U.S. owned operation to create an honest way for them to come.

A very heart felt story indeed, however it skirts the important issues.

Why are these other countries incapable of developing and economic model to suppor their own citizens?

Why is the United States not doing more to develop these other economies?

Why is the United States government not upholding the laws it is sworn to protect and defend.

Why are parents sending their children thousands of miles at the hands of criminals.

I really am sorry any family or person should have to make these kinds of choices. However, dragging me down, instead of them up is not an alternative either.

Everything the U.S. is doing is keeping such places down, and its dragging this nation down with them.

I'm sorry, but you don't walk into someone elses' house uninvited and without permission.

If you cannot read, comprehend and understand the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights, you don't belong here.

If you want to speak your native tongue and not our native tongue, you don't belong here.

Julia is right her parents are to blame..Now if an American had done something similar with their kids they would be charged with child abuse..why not these people. The father lived on the east coast and the "poor" mother scraped together what she could to get her kids her. If the father could pay for the DNA testing why not pay to get his kids to the USA the right way. Its a shame that young child had to shoulder the responsibilities of an adult and lose her life. Check in on the brother in 5 years and I bet he will be a LA gang member. While this story is sad we still cannot tolerate illegal immigration period.
