UPDATE: New evidence adds more strength to the argument that the pictures are, in fact, of the iPhone 4G/iPhone HD.

Looks like Steve Jobs might not have been up all night crushing fruit after all.

Images first posted last night by tech blog Engadget of a device believed to be Apple’s iPhone 4G/iPhone HD have been discovered to be of a Japanese counterfeit. The discovery was made by Spanish tech blog Applesfera, who had a reader notify them the device in question was a knockoff and not the latest and greatest to come out of Cupertino, Calif.

Initial reports of the fourth-generation iPhone have pegged it to include a front-facing video camera, one of the reasons last night’s images were believed to be the real deal.
