Information is so valuable, and awareness is priceless. I too have had Celiac Sprue and a host of other autoimmune issues that could have been prevented had i gotten the right diagnosis. I am currently a patient of Dr. P. Greens and part of the suffolk Celiac group. This disease isn’t a choice, its a necessity, and tolerance in understanding the gammot of symptoms is a must to prevent long lasting harm. Please take this seriously. Great article! Thanks for sharing this information. All too often the GF diet is considered merely a “fad” and people are unaware of the true dangers of gluten to those suffering from CD. I applaud you for getting the truth out there and for finding people willing to share their story. I have found a lot of encouragement through the personal accounts of many individuals facing gluten intolerance. Recently, I picked up a copy of the book, “Healthier Without Wheat” by Dr. Wangen which has proved not only to be an incredible resource of information, but also includes a collection of case studies that have been inspiring and encouraging to read.

@Lisa…Well…that’s just weird. I’ve been gluten free for a little over 22 years now and I’ve developed a painful case of arthrits. I wake up to pain and I go to sleep with pain. A month ago I woke up to a couple of swolen bent over fingers that look like they have been slamed in a car door. I NEVER cheat the diet. I get too many gastrointestinal troubles.

My 3 daughters and I are all gluten intolerant. Having gone on the gluten free diet before an official diagnosis, we are not included in the official celiacs numbers. However…….it has changed our lives. I no longer have to travel with a nebulizer due to severe asthma and I no longer have frequent infections due to a compromised immune system. The enamel on my teeth is once again strong and my osteoporosis has lessened. These are just some of the symptoms I lived with for years until going on the GF diet. It’s certainly worth it.

I’m sorry. While some of this information is good – I am in total disagreement that people who are going gluten free that are not diagnosed are basically -excentric. I have every conceiveable test that came back negative. I cured by AKS (arthritis) by going gluten free in 3 weeks – along with gobs of other symptoms – too numerous to mention. If I eat any gluten I become arthritic to the point of severe pain and limited mobility, loss of strength, narcolepsy, etc. You don’t need a positive test. Do an elimination diet for 3 weeks. If you’re symptoms clear, you have some type of sensitivity to gluten. I would recommend eliminating it. Fortunately for me, I trust my body. Do your google research for “gluten & vertigo”, gluten & cancer, gluten & pain, gluten & whatever. You make up your own mind. Wishing all readers good health. – L

Fancynancy…correct my logical thinking if i am wrong here…your sentence says the doctor wont diagnose without a biopsy, but then you said her son was diagnosed with a biopsy…doesnt that qualify as he must have diagnosed him? And by the way, how do you know what the doctor will and wont do, are you Dr. Green?

Fancy Nancy you need to get some help.. I was not answering you because I came here to here peoples stories and comments not listen to a “kook” like yourself. Just because your dr knew about celiac for 22 years doesnt make him an expert.

I was diagnosed by the top expert in the counrty, if not the world Dr Peter Green. We also attend the celiac Disease center at Columbia University. What did you say your dr’s name was? Where did you say he practices? Just curious so I know to stay clear of him, and make sure Dr Green sends him some information so he can educate his patients. Obviosly he is not doing his job right since you dont know what you are talking about….
