The Long Island Ducks geared up for spring training recently on Long Island for the first time in 11 seasons.
The team usually trains in Florida because it is warmer but players say they came prepared for the March weather in New York with the right gear.
Spring training is a time for the coaches to get familiar with new players and their mannerisms. It is a time for the team to see how they flow together on the field and get into shape.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s in Florida or Long Island, as long as you’re on a baseball field it’s a good day,” said Ray Navarette, Ducks’ outfielder.
