What can I say as my last word? If the it's bone dry for one team and they are virtually even in the standings it has to be just as bone dry for the other.

I don't care about the Rangers but to see you cover two teams virtually tied and mediocre for a decade (at best) and read such a disparity in analysis raises questions.

Thats it.

Last word on all this - I think the Isles are headed in the right direction, however slowly, and the sun will shine again soon over what will hopefully be a new "Nassau" Coliseum.

I believe next season will be a key one in their development as a team and I think it’s a key season for the front office as well. Clearly the Blackhawks and Kings are two clubs that are currently showing the rest of the NHL how to turn around a nightmare. Yes, the Pens did too, but drafting Malkin and Crosby back-to-back is a lightening bolt that I’m not expecting to strike twice in my lifetime.

And yes, I hope they make me eat my words from the last column and make a legit run at a playoff spot this season. And I think I speak for all Islander fans when I say that I hope in future seasons the measuring stick for success isn’t based on where the Isles sit in the standings compared to where the Rangers sit. I hope the bar is set a bit higher than that. And yes, Yashin was a bum, please…a bum they are still paying millions to.

Michael...the Isles problems lie in the front office period. You've stated that Gordon isn't the real deal. he's got an undersized, overmatched team still playing hard....they dumped Vancouver 5-2 last night...on the road. He's getting more out of less than any coach in the league.

Wang can fill the seats in the Coliseum by improving the roster and winning. It's not all about a new building. A new building would be great but it's the team that needs the rebuilding right now...not the real estate. A new building will come soon. let's make sure it's not as empty as the old one the past few years

Mr McEnaney,

You have blasted the Rangers plenty? They have four more points than the Islanders, are 1-3 against them and the Isles have more goals scored than them with about 250 more man games lost and only scored nine less goals than them a year ago when there was a 530 man game injury disparity.

Your paper made a claim on Wang that was wrong and the writer now works for Mangano.

Funny but looking at your article archives for Rangers vs Islanders that simply is not true at all. You don't have access to Wang or Dolan so you cannot claim what either do behind the scenes day to day but only Wang takes criticism for the hockey product when his gm and staff at least talk to the fans. Wang goes out of his way not to talk about the team and let's his general manager do that unlike Sather.

I was wrong about one thing, the LI Press is not owned by Dolan given that six part article correctly roasting him for his team sponsored Newsday which influences the Lighthouse, Wang and hockey perception in this market which helps drives announced attendance at Msg vs true attendance.

Yashin was a bum? He made more playoffs in New York with half the payroll than Messier, Leetch and Richter had to finish behind him and Oleg Kvasha in the standings after buying every free agent in hockey and buying them out. As soon as the three cancers left or retired the Rangers finally made the playoffs. the day after Kasparaitis deal expired it was time to overpay Gomez, Redden and Ted Drury's brother with another front-loaded contract or no one would sign there, not even Alexei Semenov.

Young Islanders are not big enough or tough enough? Maybe not, but they have beaten all the top teams this year with two wins against Devils, Buffalo, three points in four games against Washington, wins against Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Phoenix, Colorado and now Vancouver. Seems like you don't pay attention to games or only noted Flyer games.

The Rangers have two playoff wins since 1997, we know how long it's been without a playoff series win for New York you don't get a cup winning a round, it's not a winning standard. Bottom line both teams have been to four playoffs and are mediocre, however your articles on one team are far different than the other because you are serving up milk and cookies in the Ranger articles compared to what you write about this team.

If you think the cup is bone dry for one club you have to write exactly the same about the other or it's not credible coverage.

The New York Islanders drew over 27,000 people to games during a Hurricane last week on back to back days, maybe you should credit the fans for a change. It's close to real attendance at Msg for most games.

I've blasted the Rangers plenty but as of the writing of those two pieces the Isles were 7 pts out and the Rangers just one after an important win over Philly. Agree 100% that Dolan is a clown but I don't have the access to him to write much and he stays completely out the Rangers day-to-day. With Wang, the Lighthouse Project hangs over this team like a black cloud and he is very involved in the day-to-day – and I’m not so sure that is a good thing.

Defending Yashin? Sorry, don't get that at all - the guy was a bum. And as an Islander fan, who cares what the Rangers do every year. You seem a bit obsessed with the Blueshirts. You can't measure their progress against what the Rangers are doing every year - it's versus the other 28 teams that I care about. Anyway, you lost me with the Messier, Leetch, Richter cancer reference. Huh?

Love Isles young talent but you can't build a Cup contender on draft picks alone - Snow needs to bust a few moves this summer and bring in some key pieces to the puzzle. They aren’t big enough, they aren’t tough enough and they have a troubling situation developing in goal that needs to be addressed as well.

Would love nothing more than to see a return to greatness – the 17 years without a playoff series win is getting very old. I sense a larger percentage of Isles’ fans are also tiring as they are second to last in the league in attendance. If you’re satisfied with a few extra wins at this point after 17 years of nothing good for you – drink your half-full glass of milk.

I’m old enough to recall the Cup years fondly and would like to see a return to that kind of consistent, high quality level of play for this franchise. Dude, the glass isn’t half empty, it’s bone dry.

All those quotes in the Ranger article and none in the Islander article?

What a shock the usual glass is empty New York Islander article and the usual glass is filled Ranger article from Mr McEnaney on two teams separated by four points and 14m dollars (not counting front-loaded Cablevision contracts) in the NHL standings and payroll department with the Islanders having scored more goals this season than Cablevision owned team and only nine less a year ago despite the two teams separated by 550 man games lost to injury and a few hindered again this year.

Alexei Yashin led his teams to more playoffs in New York than Ted Drury's brother, team cancers Messier-Leetch and Richter who missed playoffs with eighty million dollar teams but not a word of criticism for the latest captain cablevision or the underachieving players and time bomb of a coach compared to his USA counterpart in Scott Gordon?

Have never seen one article from you that is not negative on the New York Islanders or positive on the Cablevision Rangers despite both teams qualifying for the exact same number of playoffs the last decade. If New York Islanders do not qualify it will be the first time in the last decade in a year they did not lead the NHL in man games lost to injury which is a stat that also does not make it into your articles.

Of course we don't see one word about James Dolan who escapes criticism while Wang is constantly written about?

Seems like another paper/writer owned by the Dolan's with selective hockey spin.

Have to cover all teams exactly the same or why bother?

Have to say PK is probably pretty accurate as far as how they are going to build the team. As far the Lighthouse, I still think a scaled-down version of that plan can work, just seem like Mr. Wang is unwilling to budge from the original plans.
PK....If it was all about the hockey, Wang could have had a new building years ago. Is he losing money..yeah.
Michael..we'll agree to disagree. Wang may love the guy..so do I but he's injury prone. We're not a veteran team like NJ or Detroit where the vets can hold the fort waiting for DP to get healthy. We need to make a move now and DP is of use to us at this point. Gordon's system is agressive and makes use of our speed. This team has no size on the roster to play it any other way. Until we get bigger up front and on the back line, this is the way to go. Get a skilled vet or two up front to give the kids like tavares room, and the scoring will come. These young players are skilled

I'm not sold on Gordon and I think Mr. Wang thinks very highly of DP so you can forget a buyout. DP is here for the duration - healthy or not. I agree abut the veterans - enough - they were terrible this year. They are about $25 under the cap - no excuses not to retool a bit this summer and with yet another high pick the rebuilding should get a boost.

Michael, time for garth to sit down with DP and get a buy out deal done on that ridiculous contract. I love DP but he's not healthy. Time to get rid of the Weights, Hunters, etc. Stay with Biron and Roloson another year until a draft pick is ready. Go get some seasoned vets who still have skill and grit to skate with Tavares. this crew has the kid lost. The coach is a keeper. It may be Snow who needs to be gone if there's no playoff spot next year
