Watch this for who is fighting the cuts.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GlT5gEBmNY

And read part of Senator Flanagan's recent email to his constituents:

"As you may know, a proposal by the Office of Parks has recommended drastic changes to Long Island's state parks including the closure of both Caleb Smith and Nissequogue River State Parks right here in our region. While Governor Paterson is reporting that this move is necessary due to budget cuts, he and Democratic leaders in Albany need to first look at cutting Medicaid fraud, the bloated state bureaucracy and reversing the $13 billion increase in spending in last year's budget before they even consider closing parks."

Sign the petition on his website if you want him to fight to keep the parks open!

Raise taxes a few percent?!? That's one of your solutions?!? My, you are very cavelier about OUR money. How about demanding that NYS cut fraud and waste in state provided services before taxing her citizens more? How about organizing teams of local volunteers to assist park staff with winter and trash clean up prior to the busy summer season? Raising taxes is a mindless solution for those who'd rather slap a band-aid on a problem, abdicate their own social responsibility, and announce that a problem has been fixed.

I'm rather disappointed that none of my fellow Long Islanders have stood up to denounce your proposal to raise taxes...wake up Long Island!

Instead of cutting taxes to get re-elected how about some of these politicos getting a big enough pair to RAISE taxes a few percent and actually reinstate some programs and improve parks and roadways? This stuff isn't free, but neglecting them is more costly than maintaining them. We want them we need to pay for them and parks are a public place that everyone needs to pay for. Charge for parking, charge for camping, but the basic infrastructure needs to be funded by the people of New York State via taxes. There's no other way it will work.
