A 30-year-old Shirley man was arrested for child endangerment Sunday afternoon after he overdosed on heroin with his two young children in the house, Suffolk police said.
Officers responded to the family’s Lombardy Drive home and discovered Thomas Koch unconscious from a heroin overdose with his kids, ages 9 and 5, in the home at 4:15 p.m., police said.
“A hypodermic needle and other residue-laden drug paraphernalia were also found in plain view and accessible to the children,” police said in a statement.
Koch was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment.
He was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and possession of a hypodermic needle. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
Child Protective Services was notified.
