A lawyer for former Nassau County legislator Roger Corbin says the Long Island politician will plead guilty to tax evasion Monday at federal court in Central Islip.
Corbin was indicted in June on charges that he evaded taxes on $226,000 he received from a developer who had government contracts.
He was also accused of lying to a federal agent.
Defense attorney Thomas Liotti says it is a “sad day” for Corbin and his family.
He said his client’s problems were partly due to “financial sacrifices” he made to stay in public office
Liotti also called the prosecution unfair.
Corbin had been in the county legislature since its creation in 1996. He lost a bid for re-election after he was indicted.
He could get up to 18 months in prison.
