A Mastic couple were arrested Saturday afternoon in Brentwood on drug and child endangerment charges after being found unconscious with their 3-year-old son wandering nearby, Suffolk police said.
A Brentwood teenager was walking on Suffolk Avenue when he found 30-year-old Nicholas Rieth and Alicia Descalzo, 26, lying unconscious on the ground with a toddler wandering nearby, at the rear of Universal Church at 1:50 p.m., police said. The teen called 911 and waited with the child until police arrived.
Rieth was found unconscious while holding two hypodermic needles and Descalzo was lying unconscious beside him, police said. Both were taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of suspected heroin use.
Rieth was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic instrument and loitering.
Descalzo was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and loitering.
Their son was released to the custody of Suffolk County Child Protective Services.
Rieth and Descalzo were arranged at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
