Homicide detectives say they were called to a recycling transfer station on Old Dock Road shortly after 9 a.m. Monday.

Detectives have yet to determine the race, age or gender of the infant. The body was found by an employee of Winters Brothers, which operates the facility. Police say the center takes in refuse from both residential and commercial customers.

A Winters Brothers spokeswoman did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.

The body has been taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office where an autopsy will be conducted.
Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
