Darnell Greene, of East Elmhurst, approached the 18-year-old victim while he was attempting to fix a mirror on his 1997 Honda Accord parked on Lena Avenue when Greene demanded a ride to Queens at 10:25 p.m., police said. When the victim refused, Greene pulled out a handgun and forced the victim into the passenger side of the vehicle while he got into the drivers seat, police said.

As the Greene drove erratically onto the Southern State Parkway westbound, he continued to threaten the victim until he crashed the car between exits 15 and 16 and a struggle ensued, according to 1st Squad detectives.

The victim gained control of the handgun and fled the scene. Greene also fled the scene but was apprehended by police on Fletcher Avenue and Bowe Road in North Valley Steam.

Greene was charged with kidnapping, two counts of robbery, two counts of criminal use of a firearm, three counts of criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday.
