A Massapequa man was arrested for drunken driving early Friday morning after he crashed his sport utility vehicle on a parkway in Albertson, New York State police said.
Arue Perry, 44, was found sleeping behind the wheel of his Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was partially in the left lane on the westbound side of the Northern State Parkway near the exit for the Meadowbrook State Parkway, where it had stopped after he hit the guiderail on the left shoulder at 4:15 a.m., police said.
Troopers said the motor was still running and Perry’s head was leaning against the window. Perry then drove the Jeep 10 feet, stopped, got out on the passenger side and fell to the ground, police said.
He was found to have bloodshot watery eyes, poor motor coordination and smelled of alcohol but refused a breathalyzer, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.
He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
