Nassau police arrested three suspects who were involved in an attmpted robbery in which a jewelry store clerk was shot in a Valley Stream on Wednesday night.
The trio announced a robbery at Papandrew Jewelers on Sunrise Plaza and confronted the owner, who was the alone in the store at 7:11 p.m.
The owner retreated behind a display case to recover his own handgun when the gunman vaulted over the counter, where the robber and owner exchanged fire and the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso, police said.
The victim managed to hold 28-year-old Bryan Kenner of South Ozone Park at the scene until police arrived, who then apprehended Gloria Cortes, 20, of Brooklyn, shortly after, police said. Cortes was pretending to be a customer during the robbery, police said.
The victim, who was not identified, was taken to South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside where he is listed in stable condition.
Edward Hamilton, 24, of Brooklyn was apprehended later for acting as a lookout, police said.
Nassau police said there may be additional suspects who have yet to be apprehended.
All subjects will be arraigned on charges of attempted robbery, criminal use of a firearm and assaultat at First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday.
Robbery Squad detectives continue to investigate.
