An East End man was arrested Monday morning for allegedly growing marijuana in his house, Southampton Town Police said.
Carl V. Tarello Jr., 41, of Flanders, was found to be growing more than 20 marijuana plants inside his Hart Avenue home after investigators executed a search warrant. Police said they also found several pounds of marijuana, four illegal handguns, 13 long guns, about 30,000 rounds of ammunition, a scale, packaging materials as well as grow lights and equipment.
“He reported that he had been growing Marihuana legally in California prior to moving to New York in March of 2009, and thought it should become legal to grow here as well,” police said in a news release.
Tarello was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, unlawfully growing marijuana and four counts of criminal possession of marijuana.
He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court where his bail was set at $2,500.
