Two drunken drivers crashed into one another, claiming one of their passenger’s lives on in Brentwood on Thursday night, Suffolk police said.
Jose Alvarado, 35, of Brentwood, was killed when the Isuzu Amigo he was a passenger in collided with a BMW 325i on Second Avenue at 9:14 p.m.
Calixto Hernandez, 36, of Brentwood, who was driving his Isuzu eastbound, was attempting to make a left on American Boulevard when his vehicle was hit by the car driven by Selvin Lazo-Giron, 25, of Central Islip.
Alvarado was pronounced dead at the scene after the Isuzu flipped over.
Hernandez was airlifted to the University Medical Center at Stony Brook where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Lazo-Giron, and his passenger, Malivin Reyes, 24, of Brentwood, left the scene of the crash and later showed up at Southside Hospital. They were treated for minor injuries and released.
Lazo-Giron was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. Hernandez was also charged with driving while intoxicated.
Both will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip, on Thursday.
Both vehicles were impounded and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352 . All calls will be kept confidential.
