Two Suffolk police officers, who were assisting a driver who was in a car crash, were injured when a woman lost control of the car she was driving and crashed into the disabled vehicle in Central Islip on Friday afternoon.
The driver, whose name police did not immediately release, lost control of the vehicle she was driving eastbound on Spur Drive North, striking one officer who was changing the tire on a vehicle that was involved in an unrelated crash on the westbound side of the street, according to 3rd Squad detectives.
The woman’s vehicle then struck the car that the officer was working on, and then that car hit the police car that had another officer inside. The officer who was seated in the patrol car was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of neck and back injuries. The officer who was changing the tire was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of leg injuries.
The woman’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
