It is looking pretty grim for Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi’s re-election bid. After the machines have been re-canvassed, GOP challenger Ed Mangano is now ahead 497 votes, according to sources.
On Nov. 13, representatives from both the Nassau branches of the Democratic and Republican parties will appear in court to report the progress of the recount. Beginning Nov. 16, the absentee ballots will be counted. Republicans think that the numbers will go in their favor since the party had an aggressive absentee ballot campaign.
Mangano is not ready to declare victory, but he says a new day could be coming.
“We are going to do a great job,” says Mangano.
Last week, the Nassau GOP stunned Democrats when they regained control of the legislature and saw an uncomfortably close race between Suozzi and Mangano. Suozzi is seeking his third term. Mangano was a Nassau Legislator until the election.
