A Hempstead man was arrested Monday for trying to rob a man in his hometown, Nassau police said.
Alexander Gomez, 21, and another suspect who has not yet been identified, followed a Hempstead man and his wife after the husband withdrew cash from an ATM on Clinton Street on Sunday at 9:45 p.m., according to 3rd Squad detectives.
The victim told police that he drove home he was followed by a Honda Civic and when he got home, Gomez and the second suspect approached him with a box cutter and the victim felt he was about to robbed, police said.
After a verbal dispute, one of the suspects slashed the victim’s tire before the two fled the scene. The victim gave Hempstead police information on the Honda and Gomez was apprehended hours later. He was charged with attempted robbery.
