Suffolk police are seeking the public’s help in locating a vehicle that may have been involved in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a Smithtown woman on Halloween.
Alyssa Bennett, 16, fell off of her friend’s motorcycle and was struck by a vehicle on Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown, but the driver fled the scene westbound at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, according to 4th Squad detectives. The vehicle could be a compact, dark-colored Honda or Mercedes, which may have damage to the front end or hood.
Steven Schwamb, 19, of Centereach, was charged with driving while intoxicated following the crash. Bennett had fallen off when he accelerated after the pair were stopped at a red light. She suffered a broken leg.
