Two New York City men were arrested Saturday for robbing a man and a woman in North Valley Stream, Nassau police said.
Jose Gutierrez, 24, of Far Rockaway, and Luis Garcia, 20, of Brooklyn, demanded money from a man and a woman as they arrived at a Greenway Boulevard home at 5:20 a.m., according to 5th Squad detectives. The alleged robbers were wearing white hockey masks and displayed what appeared to be handguns, police said.
The victims handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, cell phones, a blue tooth and a purse, police said. The suspects were apprehended by Fifth Precinct officers a short time later when they tried to evade the police by striking the patrol car and ran away.
The stolen items were recovered from the Acura that the suspects were driving, police said. No injuries were reported.
Gutierrez and Garcia were charged with two counts of robbery and criminal use of a firearm. Garcia was additionally charged with criminal mischief and unlicensed operator of a vehicle.
Both were arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
