Suffolk police are seeking the public’s help in trying to locate a robber who has struck at businesses in the Brentwood, Central Islip and Bay Shore over the last five months.
Between May and September the robber has gone into various stores, usually at closing time, displayed a weapon, either a knife or a gun, and demanded cash, according to 3rd Squad detectives. The robber has stolen more than $12,000 in cash over the course of five robberies.
The first robbery occurred on May 2 at Johns Express on 5th Avenue in Brentwood, the second took place at Machito Multi-services on Suffolk Avenue in Brentwood on April 28. The third occurred at 30 E. Suffolk Ave. in Central Islip.
The forth occurred on Sept. 17 at Caribe Video Store on 5th Avenue in Bay Shore and the last one occurred on Sept. 19 at Machito Music on 5th Avenue in Brentwood.
The suspect is described as a heavy set Hispanic man, approximately 5’7” tall, 30-35 years old with olive ski, black hair and a moustache. He pulls a t-shirt over his head during the robberies. He may be driving a red SUV-style vehicle with out-of-state license plates.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential and the caller will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
