A Bay Shore delicatessen owner is accused of trying to hire a hit man to murder his ex-girlfriend’s new love interest.
Suffolk prosecutors say about one month ago, Rajinder Wadhwa, 32, met with an undercover detective posing as a killer-for-hire.
“Over the course of the investigation, the defendant met several times with the detective to discuss the plot and the financing of the killing, the total cost of which was set at $2,500,” Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota said in a statement. “The meetings to plan the murder were held at Wadhwa’s business, “Ronnie’s Deli” in Bay Shore.”
Wadhwa allegedly said he wanted the murder to look like a robbery. He pleaded not guilty Friday to criminal solicitation at First District Court in Central Islip where Judge Jennifer Henry set bail at $75,000 cash or $500,000 bond. He had not made bail as of Saturday morning.
The identity of the intended victim and Wadhwa’s former girlfriend are not being released.
