San Mateo County prosecutors in California have filed murder charges against a 28-year-old man who was on the lam for eight years after allegedly taking part in the killing of a Daly City teen.
Erick Romeo Morales, who spent four of those years living on eastern Long Island, was arraigned Thursday. He also faces a special allegation of lying in wait in the 2001 death of 15-year-old Quetzlcoatl Alba.
Alba, an acquaintance of Morales, was found stabbed to death in a storage area of a Daly City apartment complex.
Morales and his alleged accomplice, Reynaldo Maldanado, were suspects at the time, but they fled before either could be arrested.
Morales was stopped last week by New York State police on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He waived extradition back to San Mateo County.
Maldanado is also now in custody.
