Suffolk police say a Brentwood man is the wigged bank robber who hit three banks in 11 days and twice threatened to use a bomb.
Kenneth Culpepper, 20, was charged with three counts of robbery on Wednesday. He was also charged with menacing on an outstanding warrant for allegedly threatening his girlfriend, according to a spokesman for Suffolk County District Attorney Tom Spota.
Major Case Investigations Unit detectives say Culpepper robbed the Bank of America in Bohemia on Oct. 8, the Chase Bank in Brentwood on Oct. 15 and the Bank of America in East Islip on Oct. 19. He switched between wearing a curly and a dreadlock-style wig when he passed notes to tellers demanding cash, police said.
Culpepper pleaded not guilty at his arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday. Judge Jennifer Henry set his bail at $50,000 cash or $150,000 bond. He remained at Suffolk County Jail on Friday.
