Nassau police have arrested a Wantagh man on Wednesday for four armed bank robberies that occurred last year.
Charles Luisi, 37, robbed at gunpoint three different banks between February and May of 2008, according to Robbery Squad detectives.
Luisi robbed the Commerce Bank on Sunrise Highway in Wantagh on Feb. 27 and again on March 12, police said. He then robbed the Commerce Bank on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow on April 23 and the Washington Mutual Bank on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa on May 28, police said.
The suspected serial bank robber had a bench warrant out for his arrest for failing to appear in court following a prior first-degree robbery charge relating to a New York City bank robbery, a police spokeswoman said.
He “was produced from federal court,” when he was arrested, police said in a statement. It was unclear why Luisi was in federal court.
He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on four counts of first-degree robbery.
