The owners of a home in a Long Island historic district face more than $24,000 in fines and fees after the removal of some 36 tons of debris from their property.
The Town of Brookhaven says the condemned property in Setauket resembled “a landfill.”
They say the home was piled from floor to ceiling with garbage. A tree was growing through the sagging roof.
The property also was cluttered with stacks of metal and plastic, car parts, tires and several vehicle bodies.
The town acted after neighbors complained.
