Big Brother is watching. … Or is he?
Suffolk County officials says some of the cameras it installs at traffic lights will be fake. The goal is to make more drivers take fewer risks.
The county has been authorized by state lawmakers to install 50 red light cameras.
Public Works Commissioner Gilbert Anderson says officials are still deciding which intersections will get cameras. He says it’s not known yet how many of them will be fake.
The real cameras record license plates as cars zip through red lights at dangerous intersections. The program is designed to reduce accidents and generate badly needed revenue.
