(AP) — Police say five men caused $20,000 in damages to a Coram golf course when they took several golf carts on a joyride.
The suspects, Long Island men between the ages of 18 and 20, were charged with second-degree felony criminal mischief in connection with the Thursday morning heist.
Det. Sgt. Frank Stewart says the men broke through a fence to get to the carts at Pine Ridge golf course. He says they did figure eights on the greens with the eight carts, switching between vehicles when one would break down.
Stewart says the men then drove the carts to a nearby house where one of the suspects lived. Neighbors called police, and the suspects were captured after a foot chase.
Officials estimated damage to the golf course at $20,000 and damage to the carts at $10,000.
