It is irresponsible and sneaky for cameras to be placed at intersections without notifying the public that this effort is underway. My husband received a ticket at an intersection where no photo enforced sign existed. This was not a high accident intersection, it is a high temptation intersection with a long delay before the traffic on the left gets the green light. A vehicle at this particular intersection has ample time to make a right turn without endangering anyone. Yet, a "no turn on red" sign is posted and now a camera to trap people for using their discretion. I am in favor of obeying traffic rules, I am not in favor of tricking the public in an effort to generate income for the county. If the cameras are installed, let everyone know. Suffolk County's own website stated a "Public Awareness Campaign" would take place. The only public awareness we have gotten are surprise tickets in the mail and mysterious flashes of light as we drive on Long Island in the evening. This is govenment oppression. Citizens should have the right to know where these cameras are but I have yet to be able to find a website that lists them.
