When was your Chamber established?
The Chamber of Commerce of the Massapequas, Inc. has been serving the business needs of the Massapequa community since it was formed 61 years ago, in Sept., 1948.
How many members do you have?
330 active members. This speaks volumes as to the importance of being a member and supporting local commerce.
How does the Chamber promote their local shopping initiatives?
The Chamber was “formed for the purpose of encouraging and promoting high ethical and moral business practices for the commercial, civic and social betterment of its environs.” For the past 60 years, members of our community have worked to represent the special needs of all the local businesses working together. The Chamber seeks to do for the business community what no person can accomplish if they were to work alone. Initiatives include organizing the Chamber website, coupon programs, monthly luncheons and networking and ribbon cutting ceremonies.
What ways is the Chamber involved in the community?
Our organization provides leadership through its various programs and projects and encourages its members to take an active role in representing our community and making it a better place for all to live, work and prosper. Some of the successful programs are donating to local food pantries including St. Rose of Lima, YES, and Beth El and other community groups.
What are some upcoming events that the Chamber sponsors?
Our biggest event of the year is coming up in May! The Massapequa Chamber Of Commerce Four Day Family Festival runs May 22 to 25 at the Massapequa Train Station.
Are there any memorable moments in the Chamber’s history that you would like to share?
Last year, the chamber celebrated the 60th anniversary on March 28, 2008 at the Stewart Thomas Manor. There are signs across from the Massapequa Post Office donated by Legislator Peter Schmitt and Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto commemorating the accomplishment.
What was your 2008 Business of the Year and why?
Small Businessman of the Year for 2008 was longtime member Steve Carroll, owner of Steven T. Carroll Incorporated, a fuel oil company. Steve is a very active member in the community and even plays the role of Santa Claus at the annual Chamber Christmas Tree lighting.
How can kioli help you and your members?
Keep up the good work, the efforts are being talked about everywhere! Beyond that, we are using the idea to pinpoint the process and and help us keep in Massapequa! Any Massapequan worried on whether or not they are dealing with a local company in good standing is encouraged to visit the chamber website at www.massapequachamber.com and view all of our 330 members.
