There’s nothing like a psychiatric drama to get you in the holiday mood. This is the gripping portrait of a mother frozen by the disappearance and murder of her young daughter, the serial killer responsible for the killing, and the psychiatrist who brings them together.

The Original Wailers @ IMAC
370 New York Ave. 631-549-2787. 8 p.m. $45, $34.
Even though band members Earl Lindo, Junior Marvin and Al Anderson all served time as sidemen in Bob Marley’s Wailers, this bill ends up being the reggae equivalent of an oldies show with Marvin handling Marley’s vocal parts.
Bay Shore
Edwin McCain @ YMCA Boulton Center For The Performing Arts
37 W. Main St. 631-969-1101. 8 p.m. $40, $35.
After a four-album stint on Atlantic Records, Edwin McCain went back to his singer-songwriting roots on his last record, Scream and Whisper. Armed with little more than an acoustic guitar and his voice, McCain not only delivers stellar, self-penned character-driven tales like “Say Anything,” but he also includes a bonus cover of “Maggie May.” His latest album, Nobody’s Fault But Mine, is chock-full of Southern soul covers that include guest stints from the likes of Steve Cropper and Joan Osborne and will be at the heart of McCain’s second swing through the Boulton Center this year.

Every Time I Die @ The Crazy Donkey
1058 Rte. 110. 631-753-1975. 6 p.m. $15 adv. $17 DOS.
Standing firmly at the crossroads of metalcore and Southern rock, Buffalo natives Every Time I Die have made their hay playing endlessly on the road as part of Warped Tour this year along with separate swings with the likes of Atreyu, Killswitch Engage and Underoath. Along the way, they’ve gone through seven bass players, left their label Ferret Music this past July and are gearing up to release their fifth full-length next summer.

Richard Shindell/Ollabelle @ IMAC
370 New York Ave. 631-549-2787. 8 p.m. $45, $34.
Call it an NYC-centric evening of music as Richard Shindell is a singer-songwriter whose roots date back to the ’80s Greenwich Village revival that included fellow folkies Dar Williams and Lucy Kaplansky (the three formed the ad-hoc supergroup Cry Cry Cry). Currently an ex-pat living in Buenos Aires, Shindell is sharing the bill with Ollabelle, a quintet whose ranks include Levon Helm’s daughter Amy and are known for their exploration of American roots music and whose sound veers between The Band and a less-edgy Fairport Convention.

Richie Havens And Friends—Harry Manx And Claudia Jacobs @ Patchogue Theatre For The Performing Arts
71 E. Main St. 631-207-1313. 8 p.m. $65, $47, $35.
Even though one of Richie Havens’ seminal moments was being the opening act at Woodstock, his creative legacy is far weightier than that. He’s a committed environmentalist who’s still recording music. In recent years he’s worked with electronica outfit Groove Armada and covered unlikely artists like Pink Floyd alongside peers like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. Always an engaging performer in a live setting, this particular performance will find him focusing on the recently released Nobody Left to Crown, where Havens adds covers of The Who and Jackson Browne to his repertoire.

Agnostic Front @ The Crazy Donkey
1058 Rte. 110. 631-753-1975. 6 p.m. $16 adv. $18 DOS.
Agnostic Front got their start as cornerstones of the New York City Hardcore Movement playing legendary ’80s hardcore matinee shows at CBGB alongside the Cro-Mags and Murphy’s Law. While last year’s Warriors was the band’s 10th studio effort, AF still delivered the same aggressive riffs and pounding rhythms thrash diehards have come to expect from founding members Roger Miret and Vinnie Stigma.

Shiny Toy Guns @ The Crazy Donkey
1058 Rte. 110. 6 p.m. $18 adv. $20 DOS. 631-753-1975.
Not unlike the Little Rock, Ark. group Evanescence, Shiny Toy Guns are a heartland act with goth-metal tendencies. The biggest difference is that this Oklahoma outfit also mixes in a distinctive retro-electro approach that found great appeal on the band’s MySpace page and landed them a major-label contract. With the band replacing original vocalist Carah Faye Charnow with new singer Sisely Treasure, time will tell if fans will respond positively to the band’s recently released sophomore outing, Season of Poison.
